2026 Sustainable Orillia Student Art Contest

Overview

The 2026 Art Contest is an initiative by Sustainable Orillia to engage students in Orillia and area schools in environmental awareness through integration of the arts and science curriculum. This year, the contest invites students to create artwork inspired by the theme “Celebrating Success Stories,” specifically illustrating how science and technology have contributed to a cleaner, healthier environment.

How it Works

  • Students research and produce a piece of art, accompanied by a 50–100 word description explaining how their work addresses the theme.
  • Submissions are judged in June by community partners, with up to $1,000 in prizes available (amounts depend on sponsorships). Awards include:
    • $200 for the top secondary entry (“Fred Larson Award for Integrating Science and Art”)
    • $100 for second place (high school)
    • $50 for third place (high school and elementary winners)

Key Dates

  • Contest runs from March 1 to May 31, 2026.

This contest aims to deepen students’ understanding of scientific advancements in environmental action, foster climate hope, and showcase their creativity. Winning artwork may be featured in art shows or a calendar, helping to spread awareness of sustainability issues within our community.
