As many readers will know, after four plus years of leading Sustainable Orillia (since inception) Stan Mathewson has given notice of his intention to step aside as Chair and President of Sustainable Orillia (SO). Although Stan’s shoes will be very difficult to fill, a search is underway to replace him. In the meantime, with the encouragement of his board colleagues, Stan has graciously agreed to remain in his current role until Sustainable Orillia’s next Chair and President is confirmed.
As has been mentioned before, Stan will remain on SO’s board and is very much looking forward to being able to dedicate more of his energy, time and passion as lead for the Infrastructure and Energy Sector team.
There isn’t room here to highlight all of Stan’s contributions, both to the community at large and to Sustainable Orillia – its ability to inform, influence and mobilize Orillia and regional residents to pay attention, to speak up and to make the changes necessary to preserve a sustainable, healthy future for us all, here in Orillia and area.
There is room however to say “Thank You Stan”. Your service to Orillia and the region is unparalleled. Advocating and leading change on the scale necessary to proactively counter the effects of climate change on our community can be thankless at times. It takes perseverance, a purpose and hopeful vision to keep at it. Qualities that Stan consistently models for all of us at Sustainable Orillia. We are grateful for all your efforts Stan and we look forward to your continuing contributions as we build on your founding legacy in the years ahead.
