Hello there. We know you don’t have much time for long narratives, so we’ll get right to the point. Sustainable Orillia is inviting you to become a member of our organization for 2022. We need your support to continue building momentum for our community-based campaign to reduce the impacts of climate change and build a more sustainable community for all residents—present and future.
We believe 2022 will be a pivotal year in the fight against climate change, and Sustainable Orillia intends to strengthen our role as a central sustainability resource for the entire community. We’re optimistic that Sustainable Orillia will be able to do more events in person this year; we will reach more people where they are and engage more of our neighbours and fellow-citizens directly in the movement. 2022 is also the year the City of Orillia begins implementation of its long-term climate action plan, “Orillia’s Climate Future,” and Sustainable Orillia is committed to continuing as an active partner in both shaping and supporting its implementation.
Although this call out is for everyone on our contact list, we’d be remiss if we didn’t thank all of you who signed on as ‘Friends’ of Sustainable Orillia in the past – your support enabled our organization not only to survive during challenging times but to grow and deliver programs that have garnered greater recognition and support for this cause. Thank you for your support. We hope you will recommit to this critical cause once again in 2022.
One change, however, is effective with this fiscal year 2022: ‘Friends’ of Sustainable Orillia will now be designated as ‘Members’ of the organization. That being said, everyone who supports our cause is warmly embraced as a ‘friend’ in the truest sense of the word. We can’t thank you enough.
Donations of any amount are welcome. By making a financial donation to Sustainable Orillia, you become a ‘Member’ of the organization. Membership isn’t an obligation, simply an opportunity for you, as a donor, to have a line of sight into the organization, its goals and operations. Most importantly, membership provides information on how Sustainable Orillia is deploying the resources you and others have chosen to contribute. Providing this line of sight is consistent with our commitment to transparency and with our goal to include as many Orillia citizens as possible in this critical movement.
Over the next few months, we will be launching some exciting new projects – all targeting emission reductions, greater climate literacy and increased sustainability across the community. Please watch for our ongoing news releases in local media, follow us on Facebook (and share please), or visit our website www.sustainableorillia.ca to stay up-to-date on our programs.
Sustainable Orillia will hold its second Annual General Meeting at the end of March, and those of you who made donations as ‘Friends of Sustainable Orillia’ during 2021 will receive formal notice of, and an invitation to, the meeting. Following this meeting, Sustainable Orillia’s 2021 Annual Report will be posted and available on our website for everyone to review. The report will provide a good recap of both 2021 activities and our plans for 2022. Members who sign on and donate during 2022 will be invited to participate in the next Annual Meeting of the organization – projected for early spring 2023.
A movement like Sustainable Orillia needs ongoing support. We are a not-for-profit organization and rely on contributions from the community to fund our programs and staff our events. Click here to learn more and join Sustainable Orillia as a member.
Thank you for your support and consideration. There is much work to be done and we cannot do it without your participation and contributions.
