Sustainable Orillia month will include the first “Sustainable Orillia Art Show” consisting of artwork submitted to us in two art contests earlier this year. The two contests, oriented around the themes of “Renewal” (in April) and “Trees (in July) attracted artwork from 16 different artists from our local community.
For Sustainable Orillia Month we will be featuring 12 works by these artists, including the winning submission for each of the two contests. The first display of the artwork will be at the Orillia Square Mall from Saturday, September 11 to Saturday, September 18. Look for the display in the former site of the Smith Book Store. You will also find a Sustainable Orillia desk and an EV Society desk at the same location over the week.
The display will move to Hibernation Arts Studio at 17 Peter Street South from Tuesday, September 21 until Saturday, September 25. For the final week of Sustainable Orillia Month, look for the display at Creative Nomad Studios at 23 Mississaga St West from Monday, September 27 until Saturday, October 2.
Contest One submissions on the theme of “Renewal” will feature artwork by Lisa Rowlandson, MJ Pollak, Marlene Bulas, Molly Farquharson, and Mary Ann Tully. Contest Two submissions on the theme of “Trees” will feature works by Douglas Porter, Gayle Schofield, MJ Pollak, Dani Magder, Brenda Smallwood and Heather Campbell.
Sustainable Orillia invites shoppers and those attending the EV Demo Weekend at Orillia Square Mall this coming weekend to stop by to see the creative, environmentally-focused work by artists from our local community. If unable to make it to the mall, then plan to take a stroll downtown to Habitation Arts Studio or Creative Nomad Studio during the weeks shown above.
