John Knapp, a member of the Sustainable Orillia Board, passed this past June. John was a founding member of the Board and brought us an intelligence, passion and attention to youth that was extremely important as we set about launching this movement in May of 2019.
John inspired the creation of the Sustainable Orillia Youth Council and mentored those brilliant young people as they developed into an organization with a passionate voice for a more sustainable future. The Sustainable Simcoe Youth Summit that the Youth Council organized and hosted this past May was a concept that John gently helped the Council bring to fruition.
As a teacher, John built an excellent rapport with his students. Over the years, many of them travelled with him to Africa to do volunteer work that truly made a difference – for everyone involved. These trips and the work students did on them were among John’s proudest achievements.
John is also remembered for his sense of humour, creative thinking, love of basketball, and his deep passion about leaving this world a better place than he found it. He is missed by his colleagues at Sustainable Orillia and especially by our Youth Council
Thank you, John, for all that you have done to help inspire and create that better place.
