In partnership with the Orillia Power Generation Corporation (OPGC), Sustainable Orillia was pleased to present Patrick Fogarty Catholic High School graduating student, Kate Sontag with this year’s Sustainable Orillia Youth Council Bursary of $500.00.
Kate is a very worthy recipient. She led the Sustainable Orillia Youth Council (SOYC) as President this past year … while successfully juggling her school work, part-time job and role as a Student Trustee for the Simcoe Muskoka School District, with her commitment to the environment and sustainability. Kate is headed off to Western in the fall to pursue her career in Nursing.
During her tenure as SOYC’s President, Kate collaborated on and led several student initiatives, including a well-attended youth march last September. More recently, she provided oversight for Earth Day initiatives on behalf of SOYC. Kate, along with her fellow PF student, Anna Bivol have provided the necessary leadership to sustain and grow this important youth movement across all of the secondary schools in our region.
This annual bursary program is jointly funded by Sustainable Orillia and OPGC. Up to three $500 bursaries are awarded annually to graduating students based on their contributions and participation in the Sustainable Orillia Youth Council. Sustainable Orillia salutes Kate’s contributions and wishes her continuing success in her studies. We would also like to thank the OPGC for their support for this important program.
